I live in a box of paints

I was first introduced to Carson Ellis work's through the album artwork she did for the Decemberists. Though it didn't come as a surprise that she is married to Colin (the band's singer) before I'd learned that fact I didn't even realize she was a "she". There seems to be a masculine undertone to her images yet they can be very feminine at the same time.
I am intrigued by her style. There is definitely a playfulness (or perhaps wit is a better word) to many of her pieces, which I simply love.

I can hardly wait for She & Him vol. 2.

Meanwhile...in case you aren't aware, Zooey also appears on Jenny Lewis' new album ACID TONGUE which came out on Tuesday.

alberta ferretti does the charleston

Ignoring the fact that I am a smidge biased towards anything remotely from the 20s era, I was quite enamored with Alberta Ferretti's Spring collection. fringe, grecian style dresses, head bands and art deco inspired cropped sweaters? um...yes, please!

l'histoire de Babar: le petit elephant

remember Babar? Looking through the New York Times this morning I came across this exhibit...

Drawing Babar: Early Drafts and Watercolors by:
Laurent de Brunhoff
@
Morgan Library & Museum’s exhibition

I used to love those books and I think there may have been a movie as well? ah...memories.

After seeing this I was inspired to go on an elephant jewelry hunt. here's what I've found thus far:

also found these on etsy...

couldn't we all use a pair of cuddly elephant slippers? the world would be a much happier place.

accept no immitation

I realize everyone is entitled to their own opinions - it would be a mighty boring world if people weren't a bit different. So, as this is my blog and all, I suppose that intitles me to an opinion...

Recently, I've been hearing this style/looks comparison of Zooey Deschanel and various other ladies in the public eye, in particular, Katy Perry. I really didn't know much about KP but I had a feeling I just wasn't going to be into her. Sure, I saw some definite similarities between the two but I was left feeling like KP was just the faux xeroxed version of Zooey with stylist in tow.

True, I have been a Zooey fan from the start(her music, style and acting)and could be biased. maybe. I was still willing to give this other girl a chance to prove that she wasn't lame. I wiki-ed her and was even going to ignore the fact that her first album was a contemporary christian record under her given name Katy Hudson - talk about a 180 from that to "I kissed a girl"?  Then I caught about 5 minutes of her on the MTV* awards; my distaste grew (*I don't normally watch MTV and in my opinion it's been pretty terrible since about 1997, but I digress...*) Willing to give it one last chance I went and listened to about 3 tracks from her The Matrix(avril/korn/britney spears) written/produced album. This was the last straw.

In my humble opinion she is an unoriginal hollywood-produced clone who has been styled by someone who took Zooey's image and ran with a candy-coted version of her look. I urge you, dear readers, to just say no!

Anyway enough Katy bashing, I'm sure she's very nice - a lot of posers & people with bad music taste are.  Let's move on to the original.
Little Zooey is the cover star for the Oct. 08 Nylon! Yay!!:

lazying on a tuesday afternoon*

Hello lads and ladettes. I've been in a listless sort of mood the past week or so. I'm taking it as a sign that some sort of change is most definitely in order. Whether it be a move, a new job or simply a cloudy day - it's been ages since it has rained in my neck of the cosmos (I heart rain and have, in fact, spent a large part of my life seeking it out. I've lived in both Seattle and London by choice - I rest my case).
So...I figured I'd take a little break from the fashion show crazy for a bit and close a few tabs that I've been meaning to mention.
cool things I have recently come into possession of:
ltd. edition wild west sweetheart

looky lu(ella)

London FW is upon us!

The always lovely Luella never fails to deliver and spring 09 is further proof of this. I love the color palette she used with the lavenders, oranges, pinks and taupes.

Not to mention the little nod to Coco Chanel.

zip the lip

In keeping up the zipper theme from my last post ... what is with all the zippers in New York this season?

Nothing against the zip, I quite like them but I feel torn with the sudden blending of my two schools of thought on the matter - that overexposed zips are to borderline tacky and my more punk side that says "more zips, please!" - It's a fine line.

Zips I love:

Zips I...er...not so much:

i love Lim

I have to say Philip Lim's has been my favorite nyc s 09 show thus far. I would wear any and all of this! down to the bow-belts and ruffled sandals, pure perfection in my book. feminine with an edge. here are a few highlights...

still... I couldn't help but think of the zipnecklace by outsapop when looking a the zip-infused dresses in the collection? :)
