happy halloween and horror film fashion:: repulsion

Happy Halloween everyone!!  In honor of it being the spookiest day on the calendar I thought I'd do one last post on horror film fashion. This time it's Catherine Deneuve as Carole in Repulsion.

I do love my 1960s fashion so this was a pretty easy choice, that and the fact that I just saw this movie for the first time last year and it's really creepy!

horror film fashion: a nightmare on elm street

Yes, I am still in denial about them doing a remake (I guess "re-working" is a better term since it's not exactly the same) of the original even though I read the script for work last year. Why must we ruin classic films this way??? but that's a topic for another post...next  up in the horror film fashion series is Nancy from A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Lets face it kids, Nancy is a bit of a hot-1984-mess. Understandably so, because for a better part of the film she is a self-induced coffee-drinking NoDoz-popping insomniac trying desperately to avoid the monstrous killer that awaits her in her dreams! (yikes!) Yet she somehow manages to land Johnny Depp which is clearly where the "hot" part of hot-mess comes into play.  Regardless, I felt like giving Nancy a bit of a makeover while staying true to the original character and given how relevant 1980s fashion is these days it wasn't difficult to do! I hope you enjoy...

horror film fashion :: 2009

I did a few posts like this last year in honor of my love for scary movies and one of my favorite holidays ever, Halloween. Everyone seemed to like those so I thought to do a couple of horror/thriller film themed fashion collages. First off, Wait Until Dark...

skirt:chloe | ring: coach| flats: pink monogram | sweater: dvf | cardigan:debenhams

True, it's more of a suspense film but newly-blinded housewives trapped in apartments with knife-wielding robbers seems terribly horrific to me!

:: Fräulein ::

Ellen von Unwerth recently released a photo-book called "Fräulein" which includes pictures of many of the lovely ladies she has photographed over the past 15 years.

Disclaimer: While I love her work, I don't love (nor do I understand the reasoning behind ) the ridiculous price tag...  I can only hope they might do another, larger scale print run and that price may drop a few hundred dollars! Fingers crossed. more here.

And now...a lovely video by Warpaint:

my day in pictures...

I've been wanting to do a post like this for a long while and, of course, on the day I decide to go for it I realize my fancy camera has no battery left just as I'm heading out the door...so I used other means and decided to stick with these "other means" through out the day. With out further ado, here is what my Friday looked like:

9:30am: driving on sunset blvd.

10:30am: get to work!

11:30am: read scripts

12:30pm: my coworker shows off part of his
halloween costume. yeah...he's "special" :)

1:30pm: palms in the sky

2:30pm: surprise lunch with the boy (and pups)

3:30pm: catching up on my favorite blogs

4:30pm: candy, candy, candy

5:30pm: me in the lift

 6:30pm: window shopping @ stella mccartney's adorable store

7:30pm: waiting (impatiently) for dinner.

8:30pm: dinner @ flore in silverlake (yum).

9:30pm: record shopping

10:30pm: lotto tickets? why not!

11:30pm: late night coffees...

I promise to use my real camera next time!!
Hope you had a good one!

kate for christmas

You may not know this about me but I LOVE pajamas, robes and cute underwear. I used to be slightly addicted to buying them but I've been pretty good recently...that is, until now... no thanks to Kate Moss whose new new Christmas 09 collection for Topshop includes all of those things and more.

And there are some great things for wearing outside of the house as well. I am especially fond of these:

see more here and here. Launches next Thursday!

vintage vogue :: part 2

I really wanted to share the photos of 1940s and 50s Vogue from myvintagevogue so I decided to do a second vintage Vogue post with my favorites from the next two decades...brace yourselves for greatness...

1940s:

1950s:

Ah, the hats, head scarves and accessories in these old editorials, I want them all.  So very inspiring for fall & winter.  I really wish I had a stack of old 1940s Vogues in my library but for now I am more than thrilled that this site exists. Don't worry though, I think I may have gotten that out of my system now! so I'll spare you the 1960s :)

vintage vogue

MyVintageVogue is an amazing little site full of fabulous magazine eds & images from the 1920s on through the 1960s. Here are a few of my favorite Vogue Magazine shots from the 1920s & 30s section...

1920s:

1930s:

Some of the 30s shots are so modern looking  - they could be from a stylized Vogue 2009.  I could really spend hours flipping through the images on this site...aren't they  incredible!?! I may have to post my favorites from the other eras in the very near future. They're just too good not to!
