lovely lashes: reckless daughter tutorial & giveaway

Part 1:  tutorial

It's a hot debate and, if I'm honest, I'm not the biggest fan of bloggers endorsing products left and right. Which is why, even though I've been approached by several companies in the past, I have been very picky about what I post. Fear not... I'm still picky but when I was asked by Revlon if I'd like to try out some of there new false eyelash products I thought a) I love fake eyelashes anyway so why not! and b) it might be fun to incorporate a little tutorial post on my blog. Besides, I have used their products quite a bit in the past, liked them and if I did not, for whatever reason, like the products they sent me to try I simply wouldn't base a post around them!

Of course, I ended up liking the lashes and in particular the eyelash adhesive (because it's got an amazing little brush! and is so easy to apply unlike many other eyelash glue brands. Yes, I'm looking at you, Duo).  So without further ado, here is the first ever Reckless Daughter Tutorial...

**I should mention that I only have a light foundation on in this video and I do all my eye makeup after I put the false lashes on, if I don't wait until after the lashes are on I'm pretty much guaranteed to mess up my makeup!**

Part 2: the giveaway...

I hope you enjoyed the video! Revlon was nice enough to send me extra product to give away to you lovely people.  So if you simply comment below (include your email!) you'll be entered to win two sets of Revlon Beyond Natural Intensifying Lashes & a tube of the Precision Lash Adhesive as seen in the tutorial! Winner will be announced Wednesday Thursday!

I hope everyone who has a holiday today is enjoying their day off! Oh, and I wanted to apologize for the big gap (for this blog anyway) between posts.  But I've been working on lots of new things so stay tuned!

ode to my onesies...

Dear onesies, jumpsuits, rompers, whatever your "official" name is...

Where oh where would I be without you lately? It's true, my collection is beginning to bordering on the obscene - I just can't help it, I love you guys! Sure you have some cons...for one thing, using the "loo" is no easy task and requires a good 15 minutes to get out of and back into you but that's really not your fault. You were just made that way! True, you are also sort of a seasonal item and this schizophrenic LA weather is forcing me to wear you with tights and cardigans when I'd really rather wear you with bare arms & legs. Again, not your fault. But it's ok, I think you still look pretty cute...

Did you know the term "Onesie" is apparently trademarked by Gerber? so use it wisely ladies!

lynch, cotillard & dior = lady blue shanghai

I vaguely remembered hearing about David Lynch making a film for Dior but I'd more or less forgotten about it until I happened upon the film itself via the Coveted. I am a big David Lynch fan and I like most of his work (in particular, Twin Peaks, which I'm a little obsessed with it). I also enjoy Marion Cotillard so, come to think of it, I suppose I was a bit bias going in to this. While I'm not that fond of the actual Dior bag featured in the film,  I do love the color blue! I think Mr. Lynch must too: the cover of his book "Catching the Big Fish" is blue, then there's the film "Blue Velvet", the blue cube in Mulholland Dr... Coincidence? I think not ;)

Anyhow,  like all good Lynch projects this short film is surreal, scary and yes, even a bit silly. enjoy...

I'd love to hear your thoughts! love? hate? On a sidenote, I really want the vintage room divider that is behind her in the hotel room scene. I've been looking for one of those for years!

Well, see you soon! xdjrd

Miss Natalia Vodianova is becoming one of my favorite models as of late. This editorial from Vogue China seals the deal...

I'm a little tired today - sorry for the lack of commentary but I'll be back to my talkative self soon enough and, I promise,  you'll be longing for another quiet/reserved post like this one ;) xxdjrd

we can work it out...

Like many of you out there, what I wear to work differs slightly from what I wear in my off time. Obviously, off time lends itself to more creative outfit choices but I try to mix it up even on work days. However... this usually works best when I think it's a good idea to try something new 5 minutes after I was supposed to be in the car on my way to work! Creative none the less.

Here is a little something I wore to work this week. Incorporating pants for once! Unfortunately, it was too dark outside by the time I took these - hence, indoor photos :(
By the way the cat mask just happened to be on the wall so I threw it on for a laugh ;) I would deem it "not safe for work".

BritWeek 2010 Designer of the Year & Fashion Show (part 2)

I have just one more post on the Genlux Britweek event that I attended over the weekend! Please bare with me. I basically just want to share a few of my favorite pieces (the ones I managed to capture on my camera, that is) from both of the runway shows and then we will resume our regularly scheduled posts. I promise!

I wasn't completely camera ready when the Alexander McQueen mini-show started but these were a couple of my favorites...
The pink cotton candy hair was pretty genius, I must say. It wasn't a huge showing but apparently some of the pieces had never been shown on a runway before so it was a nice McQueen treat. Bittersweet, of course.

And moving on to Mr. Matthew Williamson (who was there to receive his award by the by. see...)
( not my photo :) from Getty images)
Matthew showed his SS2010 collection which, as I alluded in my last post, really impressed me this time around. Here are some shots I took - please note it's my first time shooting a fashion show of any kind - it was a bit nerve-wracking trying to snap photos fast enough! I like my tripod and self-timer better I think! Anyhow...
I have to say, these were even more incredible in real life. I had a great time but seeing this in person really makes me want to go to more fashion shows.  In the meantime, I'm still very thankful for style.com!
