a little thursday night

Nothing is better than spending a Thursday night as if you have nothing to do and nowhere to be the next day (even if, in reality, you do)! It almost feels like an extended weekend that way. Here is a little bit of my Thursday night...
this is "hungry me" ^ (please excuse the unidentified elbow behind me!)
yummy Thai iced tea
yummier still, coconut soup and...

 hey, look! it's the Brit.

The restaurant we went to had green ceilings and mod-looking light fixtures.
After dinner we stumbled upon this little pink Smart Car that thought it was a wind-up toy.
Then off to see a film in LA's best moive theater, the arclight - we went to SALT because I love Angelina.
But we got there a bit early - here's me waiting and I'm pretty sure eating caramel corn (so good there) when this photo was snapped, can you tell?
The movie finished we went back home to let Charlie explore the yard.
me and little Lola. She says hello!

So there's a glimpse of  last night.  I have a busy weekend ahead of me involving music related things AND  my friend Brittany is coming from Santa Barbara to stay with me!! I am told there may be wine involved.

Be safe, have fun!

last resort: Givenchy

I know, I didn't post anything about the resort collections up til now and it's been about a month since the shows happened, bad fashion blogger. At the time I felt like the collections had been pretty well covered by most of the fashion blogs I read and  I didn't really feel like I had any thing to add. But. While going through the Givenchy Resort show again on style.com I felt compelled to post some of my favorites from that collection for you all. I'm pretty sure it was the bold reds that first grabbed my attention and then the romantic Victorian-esque silhouettes. Anyhow, see for yourself.

{click collage to see larger version. click here for more from this collection}

In other news, a nail found it's way into my car's tire some time in the past week. I guess I won't be buying anything new clothing-wise for a couple weeks :(  Classic that I just bought a raaather expensive plane ticket for an upcoming trip.(I guess part of that last thing is good news but boo to the rest). ok, end of rant.

musical notes: It's no secret that I've been a big supporter of florence from the very early pre-record label days AND all of her videos thus far have been beyond incredible. Here's one I haven't posted yet (sorry about the ad!)...I love this song. xdjrd

sail on, sunday

I had every intention of taking photos of our quick day-trip to Laguna Beach to visit my mother and sister but we were simply too busy to stop and snap anything - not even my nautical-esque outfit in it's element. By the time we got back to LA this is the lighting we were left with. Still, I wanted to take a few so "the Brit" and I goofed around in the yard for a bit and here's what we came up with...

I still need to take this fletcher by lyell jumpsuit in a little - I love it but it runs pretty big if you ask me. I'm wearing a small and it's pretty darn baggy - especially in the top area; I am not a small-chested gal! so, just a little warning to anyone contemplating getting it.

jumpsuit: fletcher by lyell
clogs (again, I know!): mia

that is all.

wrapped up in books

I'm trying to resist the temptation to start thinking about Fall already but this cozy yet colorful editorial isn't helping...

Get up and run away with it

Confession time, I have been wearing this Chambray dress almost non-stop since I bought it last week.  I don't tend to re-run my dresses so close together. ever. however, this one seems to be an exception, and I have a feeling I know why. You see, ever since I first gazed upon this dress last year I've been lusting after it. But I somehow missed it when it went on sale and it just never happend for me. So, when I found this dress stashed on a random rack in XXI, even though it was a size too big, my heart skipped a beat. Ok, so it's not quite as cute as the pitch perfect blue Lover dress but it's clearly not a bad substitue!  By the time I got around to this work-friendly outfit I had already worn the dress twice but didn't manage to snap a picture of the other two outfits, unfortunately, so this will have to suffice.

there she goes again

I hate to complain about the weather because it's a bit played out in the blogoshpere (albeit relevant when discussing fashion)  but man, was it hot in LA over the weekend! We live in a small house that was built in the 1920s and it only has one window AC in the bedroom - suffice to say, that's where we spent the majority of our time.
Clothing wise, the smaller the amount the better. I'm not a fan of my clothes sticking to me (and really, who is? ) which is why I ended up in this vintage onesie with my hair in a (very) messy bun yesterday morning. It wasn't all bad though, "the Brit" disappeared for about 25minutes saying he had to go get something and then turned up with a brand new hammock; I had been asking for one since spring!

But truthfully, it was a bit too hot even sitting in the hammock and we only lasted 30 minutes or so.
*I'm about to fall out of it here - hence my weird pose & expression :)

So how is the weather in your neck of the woods, lovely people?

Now, a post title explanation and the perfect song for hot summer days...

the reality of blogging

I've come across a few posts and articles lately about the outfits that style bloggers post and whether or not they are a fair representation of how we dress everyday. Only putting up photos of you in your best outfits and not what you wear when you are unmotivated or running late and have less that 5 minutes to get out the door, for example.

While I don't post every outfit every day (because seriously, who has that kind of time?!) I think what I do post is a pretty good sampling of my everyday wardrobe. (I think people like Erin at calivintage do a much better job with this btw) Occasionally, I'd say a couple times a month, I wake up with no motivation and/or no time so I reach for the closest, easiest sartorial solution.  In all honesty,  I haven't posted many of those outfits but it's not that I'm trying to hide them. Usually, if I'm running late at the start of the day I end up exhausted by the end of it and in no shape to pull out the camera and tripod to document it. Since I pride  myself on being an honest blogger, I thought I'd post what I wore yesterday when I missed my alarm and woke up when I should have been in the car already...

If I'm in jeans, chances are I am having one of those days or have been in the garden digging things up (OR I've been horseback riding -see post from last week!).
