A taste of my London Fashion Week

I must apologize for my all-over-the-place-ness recently! Many changes have been going on but I have, for one thing, settled into my new day job, I've also kicked my jetlag and am (finally) starting to feel like I'm getting  things accomplished again! Which also means I am ready to finish all the posts about my London visit! Thanks for being patient readers!

You may recall, in the not so distant past, I did a post on London-based label Colenimo's last collection which I adored! Well, I was lucky enough to be invited to a private view for the Spring/Summer 2011 collection - equally adorable and vintage inspired. I also met the Designers, who were such lovely people! I also attempted to put together a little video of the night to post here.  I so loved the way the pieces were displayed - hung from lofty ceilings via cute white ribbons - it was almost like an art installation.  The only negative was that the clothes sort of twirled around at whim - incredible effect for people there in the room, not so easy for amateur cinematogaphers to shoot, I'm afraid. but I did my best with my limited gear and a shaky hand. Here's what we are left with...

The gorgeous SS11 lookbook isn't online yet (this is a sneak peak. shhhh...) but the line is really beautiful so keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks. www.colenimo.com

seen you soon!

the fringe benifits

Under the influence of this editorial:
and this film (which, incidentally, I saw for the first time at the BFI whilst in London last week)

I went to the lovely miss Chevonne (otherwise know as my hair guru) at Goodform Salon and cut bangs again (after 3 years of growing them out I should add)! I know, some will say, this is not the most original thing for a blogger to do to her... err... "do" but to those, I say, I needed a change and to quote regina spektor "and it always grows back, hair grows even after you're dead..."
(promise to take proper photo soon. this iPhone one will have to suffice for now!)

I think it was a smart move; the only downside thus far being that I picked the hottest weekend all year to do it so they ("the fringe") have basically been stuck to my forehead for 2 days... but fall is coming, and the fringe and I shall be waiting!

I hope your week(s) get off to a great start!

baby moss

I've been meaning to post this for ever and ever. I'm sure you've stumbled across it before but it feels a little autumnal to me for some reason which I thought made it worthy of posting now.  Although, allegedly, the temperature in LA is going to be in the high 90s this weekend so perhaps I'd better cool my jets as far as knitwear and feathers are concerned...though hippie braids are probably acceptable.

sending out an SOS...

Back in LA but not quite back in action, kids!  Jetlag has hit with a vengeance this time and I think I need a second to collect myself :)

Meanwhile here is me hanging from playground equipment, because why not...

and a video by the Police...

o' sailor

Did you know England has beaches? well it does. Here is me prancing around one of them earlier this week (in Cornwall to be exact), connecting with my inner sailor...
In retrospect tights and sand aren't a particularly winning combination but it wasn't as bad as it sounds. just had to shake everything out a bit...

summer polaroids

Labor Day has come and gone, and the summer is basically finished.  I'm ok with that. I think I'm ready for a new season. Plus I can always look back and reminisce.

Here are a handful of polaroids I took (or posed for) with my land camera over the past few months...
Please excuse my scanning job with some of these. There are a lot more where they came from but, man it takes a looooong time to scan photos individually! Perhaps I'll put more up on my Flickr account when I get back from my UK trip! :) cheers!

in search of the holy grail (of vintage dresses)

No, I'm not already home! But I did plan this post before I left LA for England (sneaky, sneaky). I figured I'd post it now...

I've been looking for a dress (as have a few of my fellow vintage-heads out there) like this striped 50s/60s dress Jean Seberg wears in À Bout de Soufflé -- if you know the film she wears it when she goes to cover a story at the airport -- here...

Amazing, I know, but finding one is no easy task; it's basically like my holy grail of vintage dresses from that era.  I did, however, find the dress I'm wearing below on Ebay and it has hints of the almighty Breathless dress. Unfortunately, sans the amazing collar which, admittedly, is half of the appeal of the original. still...

And so, the search continues... but my love for stripes has been reignited since this dress entered my closet (I sort of o.d.'d on them a few years back).

take care! xdjrd

England or bust...

I had epic plans for this little video and that was probably my first mistake. I ended up asleep most of the plane flight (which, in truth, was a very very good thing since I am not so keen on the air part of traveling abroad) and we both looked a little run down in the majority of the later footage but here is a little (mostly scenic) taste of my journey from a few days ago...

street smarts: fall

These outfits/color schemes are getting me very excited about fall! It's arguably my favorite season, after all. I thought I'd post some recent finds in the world of streetstyle...
(photos via: supermama, streetstyleaesthetic,  hell-looks, trendycrew, streetstylelondon, streetstyletimes)

Apparently, I have a little love for the menswear trousers which a couple of these lovely ladies are sporting, this surprised me because I don't wear pants that often, but I'm thinking I might need to venture that way.

I'm excited to see what everyone is wearing on the streets of London these days. One of the best things about traveling to other cities is seeing what is going on style-wise!

musical notes:
so...anyone else excited for the new Belle & Sebastian record?  :)

labor day parade

I thought about putting on a white dress today just to spite "the Labor Day rule" but instead I decided to pull out this parasol I bought a few weeks ago and use it as a (functional) prop. I've been getting into a really bad habit of waiting until the end of the daylight hours to take my photos even though I know the lighting is going to be tricky! So while I try to figure out a new shooting schedule, here I am in one of my favorite, favorite dresses playing around in the garden...
and did you happen to notice these happening south of my ankles? I'm a little bit in love.

Eek! My belated Blogiversary! DJRD is 2!

gif animator

This just goes to prove how crazy my life has been in recent weeks! While I was waxing on about my August 30th post being my 400th I managed to completely forget that August 18th was my blog's 2 year Blogiversary. Sheesh!

Despite the month of August being a whirlwind of random, sort of life-altering, events (and, therefor,  sporadic posts) I feel pretty happy with where Don Juan's Reckless Daughter is at this point. Thank you all for making it what it is with your comments, incredible insights and support.

As my blogiversary gift I will continue my tradition of asking you to comment on my blog and/or tweet, post, link, facebook, tumble (what have you) about this blog so that others can find me in my dusty attic corner of the internets.

Thanks again, everyone!
There is much more to come! Year 3 will be great!

the truth is in the dirt

I was so hoping Maximilla Lukacs and Sarah Sophie Flicker (aka The Belles Of The Black Diamond Field) would do a video with the amazing Karen Elson for her new album. They have and it is, of course, quite good. see for yourself...

have a wonderful (for some of us holiday) weekend!

photophile: edward steichen

It has been a long while since my last photophile feature and, while flipping through a stack of magazines that have been collecting dust on my nightstand, I was reminded just how much I love the work of Edward Steinchen. As far as I can remember, I have yet to mention him so I thought I'd use this post to share with you some of my favorites...
Edward was an American (though actually born in Luxembourg) photographer and artist; He shot a variety of subjects throughout his career but, I have to say, my favorites are the photos he took while he was Chief Photographer at Condé Nast - including most of the above. For more on Mr. Steichen here.
