snow days (last post of 2010!)

Well, here it is again, the last post of the year!  2010 has been a year full of changes - most of them great... New job, new hair cut, first time recording in the studio, and, of course, lovely new friends (and readers too)! I hope it has been good to you too.

With all this talk of change why not a change of scenery in the final post of the year?! I've been hiding out in the mountains and I used outfit shots as another excuse to go play in the snow. I tugged "the Brit" out there with me and came up with the following results...

outfit details:
dress & cable-knit tights - h&m
cardigan - xxi
snow boots - sorel
carlington scarf - yarnovermovement

Have a wonderful New Years Eve - be safe, be well.  And lets make 2011 one for the record books, shall we! see you very soon x djrd

Happy Holidays from Don Juan's Reckless Daughter!

I have had a very dodgy internet connection over the past few days but just managed to connect - slowly, but connected none the less! I thought I'd swing by to say Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to everyone of you who stops by my little corner of the blogosphere! It is so wonderful to have you here!

see you soon!

rain drops keep fallin' on my head

Hello from LA, which is apparently suffering an identity crisis at present and either thinks it is a rain forest or Seattle.  I can honestly say I haven't seen this much rain in one go in LA ever! It is insane and, also, people here cannot drive in any sort of weather (seriously people - it's just water, do be careful but not so careful you're going to cause an accident. sheesh!) So far only one leak to report and no landslides (yikes, knock on wood that would be horrible). As a result of the showers, I'm afraid there has also been limited time and space to do outfit shots. I must appologize for that but I'm working on it.

In other news: THESE babies were waiting in my mailbox for me when I got home today...
They are from Nicole of Fashion Forestry's line and LOOK! they literally sparkle like Cinderella's glass slippers. sigh...suffice to say we're in love. I hope to give them a proper post soon but I just couldn't wait to show them to you.

Well, it looks like it is out into the ultra-soaked streets of West Hollywood I go. Promise not to be gone too long and meanwhile (though I probably post this band too much) here's Jenny & Johnny on Conan earlier this week... xxdjrd

(winter) harvest

The rain is beating down in LA today and it's supposed to continue well into next week, so I'm curled up on the couch with "the Brit", sipping coffee and going through my back issues of W magazine. Basically procrastinating by ignoring all of the Christmas shopping I need to finish up.  When I came upon this editorial I swear I could feel sunshine peeking through the clouds, if only for a moment.  After watching the weather forecast for most of the country (and Europe -Wow! - sorry guys... brrr!) I figured we could all use a little faux sunshine so I thought I'd share it with you!

the holidays bring with them the sporadic post

Hello, my dears.  I trust everyone had a calm relaxing weekend and is pretty much done with their holiday shopping? ...no? Wait, you mean you had a crazy busy weekend too? At least, I assume you did. The pre-holiday buzz is pretty palpable in Los Angeles this week; it feels like everyone is on the verge of skipping town (myself included but not for a little while still). In all my busy-ness I did manage to snap a few shots of this outfit which included my tried and true dress purchased at Topshop over two years ago. Worth every penny and I can't believe it's never made an appearance here until now because it's a staple.  Here I've paired it with a Rodarte for Target blouse (which is actually a little big on me so I don't wear that as much as I should) and some sparklie shoes.

outfit details:
dress: topshop (oxford circus)
blouse: rodarte for target
shoes: uo

I will try my best to keep up with my posts during the next week despite the holiday rush! xdjrd

PS: In case you missed it, I was featured on Blaubuska talking about all things Christmas.

bits & bobs & holiday wishes

I've officially accepted that the Holidays are (essentially) upon us and I'm even really enjoying the Christmas music this year; talk to me after I've finished making 10 playlists for our Holiday Party, I may change my mind.   I'm not sure why I’m so chipper about it this time around because, while I do like Christmas, I'm not usually as into the whole build-up.   More often then not, I am quite unprepared for the festivities and it’s a mad rush to get presents, make my own wish lists and keep up with life in general.

Speaking of which, I thought I’d share a little wishlist with you all – along with some holiday cheer from Conan and She & Him...

Oh and these...
Also on my list... vintage dresses & cardigans, maybe a i phone 4g, any clothing from: alexandra grecco, orla kiely or dear creatures  I'm sure I'm forgetting something and I know I won't be getting a lot of these things but a girl can dream, can't she!

And now...

me and the sailor coat (or...why twitter is my new best friend)

hello there!  I hope you are all feeling fine and managing to keep your feet warm.  I have to admit, I'm happily piling on the layers over here in "50degrees-is-the-new-20degrees" land! I think I forget what cold really is until I go to the UK or New York in mid-January. And that's when it all comes back to me... still, here I sit, piling on my layers at the slightest hint of winter in the air.

Which brings me, I think, to the tale of topshop sailor coat...

I, like many of us out there in internet-world, had been lusting after this coat since I first saw it on bloggers like elinkin and the cherryblossom girl last year.  Apparently, even alexa chung has one (I missed that fact until just now). Anyhow, by the time I'd resolved to buy one they were seriously sold out. So I (reluctantly) let it go.

That is, until last month... when, by mere chance, I noticed a tweet from miss Anja of clever nettle saying she was ready to find her topshop sailor coat a new home because she did wear it enough. When I saw it was my size I jumped at the chance.  And that pretty much brings us up to speed! I had been counting down the days until the weather got cool enough to let it out of my closet and I have been hard pressed not to wear it everywhere now that it's chillier. This is how I wore it over the very gray and cloudy weekend...
 outfit details...
sailor coat - topshop (by way of clever nettle)
dress - h&m
shoes - vintage
cream tights - xxi
sweater - uo (xs from guys dept)

I figured now would also be a good time to ask you to follow me on twitter!@recklessdaughtr

it's that time again...

You may already be aware of this, but just in case, Lula issue 11 is here and miss Charlotte Gainsbourg graces it's cover:

And here is the Kirsten Dunst/Autumn De Wilde Editorial "White Chalk"...

Have a wonderful weekend, lovely people! Spend it cuddled up with some tea (or coffee) and a blanket or someone you love (or both). Stay warm if it is cold where ever this has found you! Winter is here.

black is back

While exploring the hidden gems yet to be unearthed on Etsy last night it suddenly dawned on me that I've been doing the majority of my shopping via the internet over the last few months. I'm not entirely certain why that is. It may, in part, be due to the fact that my new job is not as near the Beverly Center (ie: forever 21 and H&M) as it once was so I don't go there much at all. I think it's also that I've been longing for more unique items that aren't going to be on every third girl I pass on the street, you know? Then there is the Vintage factor - so much vintage online, so little time (and too little $$)!

Speaking of which, I recently found this daisy of a dress on ye old Etsy and it was even better than anticipated once it arrived in my mailbox! It is a 1960s Tuxedo Dress and I am smitten, people. I hope you'll agree!

outfit details:
dress - Etsy
shoes - Seychelles (circa 2008)
tights - primark

This dress reminds me a little of a mime which reminds me of this song...
