paper doll

I thought this editorial of Michelle Williams in the current issue of Interview Magazine was gorgeous (despite her apparent lack of eyebrows) so I wanted to share it with all of you. She looks like a doll and I want to own literally all of this clothing.
The interview itself is quite interesting. She talks alot about her acting process, etc.  I was also pleasantly surprised to learn about her Norwegian heritage (a trait we share). You can read part of the text  here.

The issue is on newsstands now...

easter happenings...

Sorry for my brief absence but I've been working for what feels like 48 hours straight! Phew...Payback for my long relaxing Easter weekend, perhaps?? Speaking of which, I hope those of you who celebrated Easter had a lovely one and that everyone else had an enjoyable weekend!  I didn't do too much for Easter but I did manage to dye some eggs with my dear friend "Bean". I also finally got her to watch Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (while drinking Mimosas which made it all the more enjoyable). It is a terrible thing that there are still people out there who haven't seen that movie!

This is what I wore....
And here are the eggs!

by the way, as you may have noticed, I've decided to keep the fringe for a while longer! thank you all for your input.

out in the park...

Earlier this week "the Brit" and I ventured over to my old neighborhood (Los Feliz) with the pups and took a little stroll on one of the seemingly infinite trails at Griffith Park. I have to say, one of the best and most surprising things about LA is that you can find "nature" in unexpected places.  There are so many parks and hiking spots to choose from - though, I'm afraid, I am hardly an expert on this subject. Anyhow, it turned out to be a rather hot day and my pint-sized K9s can only go so far on their own paws so this was not an epic hike by any means. None the less it was wonderful to get outside...
we ended with an impromptu picnic in the shade of some huge trees - phew....we need to get out more.

charmed, I'm sure

I've been on the lookout for new jewelry because I haven't purchased any in what seems like ages.  Part of that is due to the fact that I have been given several items from family and friends in the past few years that I wear all the time (most of them are necklaces or rings).  Jewelry someone gives to you doesn't have to be fancy, just the thought behind it can make a piece more special than it would be had you bought it for yourself.  Vintage jewelry is always great because it comes with it's own secret history but there also are many newer pieces that I also wouldn't mind getting my paws on.
via la ville inconnue
Lately, I've been noticing adorable little charm bracelets popping up various places: tv, blogs, photo streams, etc. This might all be a coincidence but the timing was a little odd. The first time they came up was during an episode of MAD MEN a few weeks ago. In the episode the Drapers go to Rome and after the trip Don gives Betty an italian charm for her bracelet to remember her trip by. (I know, I know so I'm behind!)Though in that specific instance, the gift does not go over too well - I think there is something terribly romantic and old fashion about the idea of a charm bracelet.
I've also come across a few bloggers wearing them...
 1. what I wore  2. styloretic  3. la ville inconnue

Some of them mention that their bracelet was there mothers or grandmothers before them. lovely little heirlooms. Since my own lovely mother isn't much for cutesy jewelry - she's more into modern pieces - Yurman, etc - I thought maybe I'd start my own heirloom? However, all of the new bracelets I had been finding were a bit bulky or too trendy for my tastes (juicy makes some, for instance, that are just not my thing).  A few weeks ago, however,  I was sent an online catalog from Stephen Einhorn and while rummaging around I noticed that they carried a bunch of charm bracelets of various shapes and styles.  I love this sweet little bracelet with the bee charm, I think that is the one I would start of with...
I think that bees are such incredible little creatures plus they remind me of the warmer months which reminds me of my birthday in June.  I also just got a vintage novelty print dress that happens to be "bee print" which I am dying to post.  Looks like I may be on the verge of a "bee obsession". Meanwhile, still no new jewelry!

Of course, you can also find a ton of charms and/or bracelets on etsy. For example, despite my love for simpler jewelry, how fun is this one?!
So... what are your thoughts on the charm bracelet? Do you think they are old fashion or fashion forward?  Incidentally, my next mission is to find a couple of silver rings. I lost my favorite one on a trip earlier this year, much to my dismay. If you have any ideas on where find a cool replacement - that's not too pricey - please let me know! xdjrd

Hello lovelies! Just waned to let you know that one of my photos (a land polaroid, to be more specific) was featured the book review section of the current (and first ever) issue of Australian magazine, "Vintage Affair"...
And guess who the cover-star is?? why it's miss Rebecca from the Clothes Horse! (I love the photo they used...beautiful.)
Inside you can also read the little interview they did with her where she talks about about her love for vintage, what personal style is and why she blogs. read it here...

return of the romper...

Yes, folks...it's that time of year again... when the sun has given us the all clear to break out our favorite rompers and - what's more - to wear them without tights! This particular romper was made by the lovely alexandra grecco last year and I had almost forgotten I owned it! It felt a little in appropriate to sport anything strapless yet so I threw my trust rodarte for target sheer blouse underneath it and they seem to work well together. here is the result...
outfit details:
romper: alexandra grecco
blouse: rodarte for target
pirate boots: vivienne westwood

Please excuse the weird hair, by the way, but I am trying to decide whether to keep my bangs or to grow them out. they're getting quite long so I've got to go one way or the other pretty soon. 'The Brit' says "keep the fringe"...what are your thoughts?

Enjoy the Bowie and have a lovely weekend!

a stitch in time

While I’m am of the belief that you definitely shouldn’t judge a book solely by its cover, when the covers are as cute and clever as these Penguin THREADS Classics are it’s certainly hard to resist.

Don't you just love these?  Artist Jillian Tamakemi ebroidered them by hand over the course of 2 months. "Three books were a lot to pull off, but I am such a sucker for classic literature and book illustration... how could I say no? The covers will be sculptural-embossed and are full wraparound images with french flaps" more here   And yes!! they will be available in the US this fall!

All this talk of books reminds me how sad I was the other day when the Brit and I wandered through a soon-to-be-closed Borders bookstore.  My question for you all is where do you buy your books (assuming you read them ;) ? Online, big book retailers or small indie bookstores? Personally, I think there is something to be said for going into a store and picking up a book that Amazon, in all it's low-priced glory, just can't hold a candle to.

the long and short of it

This dress was a Rose Bowl flea market find last month and I've been wearing it a lot during the past few weekends. It was in immaculate shape and for $15 how could I walk away? It is a bit long so I may be hemming it in the near future (that is, if I ever get to my pile of "to sew" items sitting in my closet). If I do shorten it I promise to post the results, however amateur they might be! But for now here it is...

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend!

chasing the daylight

There are times when outfit shots don't turn out exactly as planned and this batch is a pretty good  example of that...although, I only have myself to blame in this case.  I had a lovely weekend with a dear friend who was visiting from Northern California but I forgot to set aside some time on Sunday to take blog photos and by the time I managed to drag my tired little bum out into the garden the sun started slipping deeper and deeper into the horizon which made the light especially tricky. I also felt a bit rushed but c'est la vie!

I figured I would post them anyhow mainly because I really liked this casual spring outfit (also because it proves I'm human!).  I felt like I fit in to my surroundings and it was the perfect amount of clothing for the beautiful spring weather are having...
