le Dolce summer

I think I've found some summer wardrobe inspiration thanks to this editorial from Nuyou Singapore. No surprise that I like it, it features pieces from Dolce & Gabbana's S/S 2012 collection (which I had almost forgotten about because their most recent show which pretty much blew. my. mind.) What is it about sparkles and sunshine? gets me everytime...

another closet raid

I took these a few days ago when it was cloudy in the canyon.  In blue jeans, which may come as a shock - also in a stolen... er... borrowed sweatshirt from "The Brit's" closet. Truth be told I was a little under the weather on this particular afternoon and the weather made me even less motivated to get dressed.  I've probably said it before but if I'm in pants a) I'm not feeling well or b) I'm being super lazy or, in this case, perhaps a bit of both.  I do love cloudy days but they mostly make me want to stay in and wear big sweaters or cotton blankets. I suppose I should be proud of myself for pulling this together somewhat!

This weekend has been absolutely beautiful and I've actually spent most of it laying on a blanket in the grass, listening to music, drinking iced coffee, reading books and hanging out with the pups (I'm actually typing this post from the aforementioned blanket).  I have a busy week ahead of me so I am just fine with a slow paced weekend.

polka dots and sunbeams

I am really starting to wonder if the schizophrenic weather the US (and possibly everywhere else) is experiencing is going to be the new norm? I have to say it makes dressing a little tricky because you never know if you need extra layers or not.   The past few days, for example, have been very warm but over the weekend it is was cold and rained harder than I can ever remember it raining here in Los Angeles.  The day I snapped these was a particularly sunny day and I chose to wear one of my new "go to" dresses.  Its actually by Alexa Chung for Madewell from a couple of seasons ago but I got it (original tags intact) at Wasteland basically for free (ok, not really free. but compared to the original price I did well). Its a great warm weather dress, thin and breezy.

and so my love affair with polka dots forges on...

photophile: Stacey Mark

It has been ages since I've done a photophile post and unless you are an old-school follower of this blog (pre-wardrobe posts) you may not even know what a photophile post is (you'll catch on quick, promise).  I caulk that up to tumblr and the fact that it has kind of taken over that aspect of my blog. Anyhow... I came across New York based Photographer, Stacey Mark's online portfolio and realized she was another one of those "hidden in plan sight" photographers for me so I decided she deserved a little post.  I have seen Stacey's work hundreds of times and even reblogged her images on my tumblr. She has photographed people like Sarah Sophie Flicker, Carey Mulligan, Chloe Sevigny, Goldfrapp and The Kills for magazines like Lula,Vice, Elle UK, Nylon, Purple...the list goes on! more information about Stacey can be found on her site: staceymark.com

Here are some more of my favorites...

hats on

straw hat on Don Juan's Reckless Daughter
I hope you had an enjoyable Easter/Passover weekend!  We have some of the Brit's family in town visiting and we spent most of the weekend showing them around Los Angeles (this included a trip to Disneyland which is never a bad thing in my mind).  As a result my weekend flew by at an extreme pace and, to top it all off, something has gone wrong with my DSLR so I had to rely on my phone to document it all!  Luckily, before that happened I was able to snap these photos of a new-to-me vintage dress that I bought a while back.  It's also been perfect straw hat weather lately which is always a lot of fun.

judy blue eyes

There are certainly few downsides to wearing a romper (going to the loo, for example, is quite the event) but I can't help myself, I love them.  I wore this particular one over the weekend when "the Brit" and I went to LACMA on a whim (I didn't bring my camera but you may have seen a few iphone photos via Twitter).  Perfect outfit for that kind of a day - just milling around a museum without an agenda.  Speaking of which I've been on a bit of a roll with the art museums lately; while in New York I went to The MET and I've gone to LACMA twice in as many months.  Fine by me. While I'm not an art aficionado, by any means, I am most definitely interested in the subject.
Once again laziness resorted to milkmaid braids.  My hair is long enough now that it's fairly easy do, even half asleep as I am most mornings.  Of course, red lips always help to liven things up!
