velvet crush
Over the weekend I finally got around to altering this adorable vintage dress that I bought so long ago I can't even recall where I found it.

back in time
I stumbled on these fun (and rare) color photos of a Vermont state fair in 1941 whilst looking for a live stream of the Olympics Opening Ceremony this morning (no easy task, as it turns out!). They are very reminiscent of these circus photos but I thought I would share them because I found them quite fascinating. I love seeing little snapshots of the past - especially ones in color - it makes it all the more real for me.

someone's gotta help me dig
I trust you are all having a nice weekend? As of late there has been an extreme lack of waredrobe photos happening on the old blog so I thought I would amend that with this quick little post. The dress has actually appeared before but those photos did not do justice to this little 40s bee print frock and so I thought we'd revisit it!
I had a fun filled weekend (it's still going strong, actually!). Last night I was able to hang out at the Rookie Magazine "Strange Magic" art show, which was a lot of fun. Such a well dressed, cool (not to mention young) crowd - Tavi, Petra and company did an incredible job of putting it all together! I promise try to post a few photos down the line. I've probably said it before but, how I wish Rookie was around when I was a pre-teen/teen! Such and inspiring, healthy and empowering little community!
musical notes: I'm a bit obsessed with this song (by fellow Canyonite, Father John Misty) at the moment. hence the post title :)

sink or swim
Thank you for all of your kind words after my last post. It has been a week now and I am starting to feel better about driving - about the whole accident, really. Time heals...and so on. Meanwhile, I've been running around like a mad woman working on some extremely exciting things over the last week (including time spent in the recording studio working on my very own songs... more on that later!) but I am very much looking forward to not having a packed agenda this weekend. With any luck, I'll be spending some time outside (slathered in SPF and wearing a hat, obviously), doing some reading and working on various photo projects. Speaking of outside, I've been pondering buying a new bathing suit since the few I have are getting a bit faded after several LA summers. I keep coming across some gorgeous ones so I decided I'd go old school DJRD on you and make some Polyvore collages! fun, right?! First up, I've been thinking about buying a new one piece for close to a million years* but I think I might actually get one this year (*clearly an exaggeration and, I should note, I do have a couple of vintage one-pieces which I wear on special occasions!)
Of course, there is no shortage of adorable two pieces out there...
back soon! xdjrd

So what about you? are you an old fashioned one piece kind of gal or do you like to show a bit more skin? Are you into prints or do you like to keep it simple? Speaking of old fashioned... Etsy has some of the most amazing vintage swimwear ever, that is, if you are willing to spend the money! like this super cute but super $$$ one, for example...

Take care out there! back soon :)
This week has not been going at all as planned...I got into a car accident yesterday and my poor little mini is a bit worse for wear (and my own body for that matter). I know things could have been exponentially worse but, I have to say, the whole thing has freaked me out a little. I kept replaying the (basically unavoidable) incident in my head last night over and over in between trying to distract myself with Etsy & Pinterest.. they helped a little but it is funny how the mind works. Anyhow, I thought I would distract myself yet again by posting some photos taken over the past couple of weeks with my trusty old iPhone!

show your spots
It is true, I am not known for wearing animal prints on the whole but when I came across these shorts
on super sale (at J.crew, of all places) something about them just worked for me.
