put a collar on it

I've been terribly under the weather all week due to some sort of stomach bug that I just can't seem to shake... still, I desperately wanted to do a post asap so I snapped these on my lunch break today.  Not the best of methods for insuring good photos but sometimes a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! My hair was a lazy conglomeration of mini-victory roll and milkmaid braids but my philosophy as of late is: if you add a shiny something to it, it will all be ok!

I've been wearing this shirt (which I found on Etsy) to. death.  I think it really begs to be describe as 1980s mime or clown inspired with a collar like this and seeing as though I am not a big fan of the latter lets go with mime, shall we?

Another recent Etsy purchase, my new Vara flats ( aka: the official shoe of vintage-y style bloggers. and, yes, that's our technical term)! This is actually my second pair of them - I had black ones several years ago but I wore them into an unrecognizable state and had to retire them. These new ones are navy blue - I always for get how much I like navy blue!

Well, back to being sick! I shall return and in a healthier state!

wilting lily

Sadly, I've only got a few photos for you this time around. "The Brit" very kindly snapped a few for me at lunch today - I've been up since 7:30am and it's hot out hence my slightly wilted look.  Still, I wanted to post this dress finally because it's one of my favorites!  It's cream so I think it's acceptable to wear after Labor Day, non?  As if I subscribe to that rule...or any for that matter. For better or worse my closet is a complete free-for-all!

I've got such a busy week ahead of me filled with fine tuning of a few songs, a crack at shooting a music video for a pal of mine (fingers crossed), a couple of drink and dinner commitments AND the Citizens Band is playing on Wednesday night!!!  Not sure if I've mentioned them here before (UPDATE: I have! Forgot about last year's NYFW show ) but they are a fantastic politically-fueled cabaret/theater troupe founded by Sarah Sophie Flicker & co and featuring many talented folks including two of my musical heroes Nina Persson & Karen Elson. They just put out a record too which you can find here.

outfit notes:
dress - wasteland (I think it's FreePeople)
shoes - remix

musical notes: 60seconds of Nina singing "I Swung the Election"

back soon! xDJRD

ask me, ask me, ask me!

I'm currently having an issue getting some images off of my camera which means no outfit post just yet, unfortunately, BUT I had copied this fun little questionnaire from Niotillfem a few weeks ago (translated from Swedish so some of the questions are a little strangely worded) and decided it would be fun to post this on my blog since I rarely do things like this these days. So here we go...

1. Where is your cell phone?

with in arms reach

2. Where's your other half?
somewhere in West Hollywood, I think!

3. Your hair?
getting longer finally! (growing out bangs is a loooong process.)

4. Your mood?
happy cause it's almost the weekend!

5. Your current plan?
dinner and then meeting up with a group of people to dance the night away!

6. The best thing to do?
In general? hang out with friends, make music, with a glass or two of champagne (obviously)

7. Your dream last night?
I keep dreaming about earthquakes and being in Grey Garden-esque mansions. not sure what this means? anyone?

sound check at Union Chapel w/ Lucette
 8. Your life goals?
To have a creative job that makes me feel happy and lucky to be doing what I love.  Sort of related: to put out a full length album in the next year(!) and hopefully play some shows and lastly TRAVEL, TRAVEL, TRAVEL. Oh and to become fluent in 2 other languages.  The good news is I feel like I'm finally getting closer to some of them!

9. What room you are in?
haha I started working on this at home in my kitchen but now I am in my office! taking a much needed break and hoping the day will go faster.

10. Your hobby?
I supposed that blogging and photography are two of my hobbies.

11. Your fear?
not living life the way I want to (also flying @_@)

12. Where do you want to be in six years?

Probably living in London or NYC. Making music, collaborating with talented folks, most likely with a child in tow.

13. Where were you last night?
Last night I had drinks and dinner with a fine looking English fellow and then watched this documentary on Jimmy Carter at home in the Canyon.

14. What are you not?

I am not excited to go outside right now because it's almost 100 degrees out today and Los Angeles is literally on fire in a couple of places!

15. One thing you wish for?
a happy, healthy and fulfilling life filled with
friends, family and many creative endeavors (that counts as one thing, right?)

and I'll leave you with this awesome (and totally relevant) song by the Smiths to get your weekend started!

more life according to my iPhone

I smell an iPhone photos post! While I'm trying to figure out who to transfer my domain over to (see epic GoDaddy fail as to why this is necessary) I thought now would be as good a time as any to take a look at the last month and a half or so as seen by my trusty iPhone...

scenes from Rookie's Strange Magic opening & the Brit and I in the recording studio
Rookie tree house w/ a pony & the most beautiful pickup truck!

summer fruit & cute Kristin's ever-growing baby bump
four-eyes back in the studio & Bagheera enjoying his freedom

the Idyllists having a little dance party while tracking & a fancy new hat
little Violet Mae & a view from the hills

tea cups & nice messages on car bumpers
morning face & the Kills! (SO good live)

90s reminiscing & self-portrait with pretty pink lips
the Hopelessly Devoted playing and the cruel reality that it is SEPTEMBER already!

boots waiting for colder weather & a pretty new dress

the Brit helping me with demos  & a surprise visit from my Mama

Father John Misty & Lola in green
   and lastly...cupcakes and glitter shoes!

back in a flash x

dreaming of fall

I suppose it shouldn't really come as a surprise that I fell in love with the A/W 2012 Orla Kiely ads  after seeing them on Tumblr & then later on the Clothes Horse.  They were shot by shot by Venetia Scott and are so in tune with what I want my Autumn to look like this year: muted greens and browns, sheer blouses under mini dresses, mary janes, creams and lace and delicate prints, oh my! I could go on and on -  I felt it only right to share them here.  I always love Orla's collections (as evidenced by many past posts, tumbls[?] and wishlists) but, admittedly, I have yet to purchase any items aside from a wallet and some stationary several years back.  One day I shall own an O.K. frock! Until then I'll continue to drool over the ad campaigns. Care to join me?

Speaking of autumnal day-dreaming, a little fall inspired playlist...

Incidentally, it is still sweltering here in la-la land but we did have some clouds yesterday!

look out hollywood here I come

It seems polyester and sunshine don't mix in more ways then one. Still, I was determined to wear this dress over the weekend sweat or no sweat.
