velvet crush

Over the weekend I finally got around to altering this adorable vintage dress that I bought so long ago I can't even recall where I found it.

I always loved the body of the dress and how well it fit, the issue was that it had the most horrendous early 70s sleeves in all of creation. Now, I'm normally not anti-big-sleeve but these things where ridiculously HUGE. They also looked like they were made from muslin (and not in a good way)... they had to go. In hindsight I wish I would have taken a "before" shot of the dress! Anyhow,  I managed to salvage the lace which had lined the end of the aforementioned heinous sleeve and created a little flutter sleeve.  It worked out quite nicely, I think!?

In a nutshell, I really need to start sewing more and this experiment has inspired me to go after a few other pieces in my "to fix" pile.

outfit notes:
dress & bracelet - vintage
shoes - mia

See you soon, loves!

Aw man, adorable as always! Also, may I just express how enormously envious I am that you are able to wear velvet in July! Lucky Californian, you!

I know, I know! So very true :)  While it's not advisable to wear velvet every day, I do tend to wrap myself in it at any given chance and this past weekend was pretty darn mild.  xm
