Hi there! My name is Meg.  I am a Los Angeles based style blogger <slash>singer-songwriter <slash>film industry worker-bee.  I currently reside in a quiet canyon in the Hollywood Hills with my boyfriend (aka: "the Brit") and our little menagerie of pets.  I am a Gemini, I am certainly not your typical "LA girl", also…I have never been known to pass up a vintage shopping excursion, a glass of champagne or a good BBC Miniseries.

Don Juan's Reckless Daughter was born back in the summer of 2008 with the goal of creating a thoughtful space to share and catalogue the things that were inspiring my life on a daily basis at the time.  After some encouragement and further inspiration from a few incredible style bloggers I began sharing images of my own vintage-meets-now style thus beginning the "Reckless Daughter's Wardrobe" posts.  I am a great lover of the fashion and art of past decades and very much enjoy finding ways to incorporate these loves into my everyday existence.

DJRD tackles your frequently asked questions (EVEN newer & improved!)...

where did your blog's name come from?
My blog got it's name from a Joni Mitchell song, "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter".  I'm a big Joni fan, love the song and when it came time to pick a name for my blog it just popped right into my head – I suppose it was meant to be.

where do you live?
I live in Laurel Canyon with "the Brit" in a little house that was built in the 1920s.  It's just a few blocks above the hustle and bustle of Sunset Blvd, up in the Hollywood Hills.  Laurel Canyon is full of music history and still has an artistic energy you can feel in the air.  I love it - living here has made me warm up to LA a bit more. You can read and listen to more about it here and here...

you mentioned you once lived in Seattle - where else have you lived?
I have lived in many places including but not limited to Seattle & London & Las Vegas.

who is "the Brit"?
"the Brit" is my nickname for my boyfriend who hails from England, so it's not a stretch, you see! :)

where can I hear/stream/buy your music?
My music website is www.megolsenmusic.com - there is a link to my bandcamp store there. I am also on iTunes, Amazon, Youtube, Soundcloud, etc - just search Meg Olsen!

where is the best vintage shopping in LA?
I have been meaning to do a post about this since forever. It should get it's own post but it is such a daunting task... plus stores come and go! For now, if you are visiting LA and in need of suggestions please feel free to email me. I'd be more than happy to help!

what kind of camera do you use? do you take your own photos?
Pre-2013 I most often I used a Canon XSI, after that, most everything has been shot on my Canon 60D. I have a few different lenses including a 50mm and 28mm.  I also have a Pentax K1000, Diana and numerous instant cameras. For the most part I take my own pictures using a tripod and either a remote or self-timer. Occasionally, I ask "the Brit" for assistance or use photos that friends have snapped but I'll always note the photographer in those cases.

is that your garden? what, do you live in the woods or something?

I live in the hollywood hills and it is quite green.  Most of the reckless wardrobe photos are, in fact, taken in my yard.

will you do a post about my: shop, product, clothing line, etc...?
If you would like to become a sponsor or have your product mentioned on this blog please email me Do keep in mind that I will only accept sponsors and review products/websites that I genuinely like and feel are in tune with the concepts behind my blog.  Most likely, I'm not going to do a product review for a power drill or diet pills, if you catch my drift! In a nut shell, please only send me requests if you have actually looked at the content of my blog. thanks!

will you link my blog, follow me, etc...
I update my blog links very infrequently but send me a note and I'd be happy to check out your blog.

I want to start a blog but I don't know where to begin. What is your best advice?

I think every blogger's approach is a little different to the next.  The best advice I can give is... figure out what you want to say or what you have to contribute to the blogosphere. For me this blog is a creative outlet and a place to share a bit of my life and my interests (namely style/fashion/music/film) with whomever cares to listen.  Picking a direction or some sort of focal point is a good place to start. Visit other blogs that you love and write down a few things that keep you coming back for more. Take a handful of those things and built upon them. Be sure to add your own genuine voice because that is what will make your blog stand out.

what are your favorite blogs?
Have a look at my sidebar!

*** If you have a question send it my way! I'm always happy to connect with my readers and fellow bloggers! Cheers!!
