rule breaker

There are a few dresses in my vintage collection that are a bit over the top; that is to say,  I don't feel like I can wear them just anywhere even though I adore them.  But maybe I could?  It's funny, the set of personal "rules" you put on yourself and your style.  For example, I classify this dress as a "daytime" dress because of it's Prairie girl meets Alice in Wonderland feel.  I would also probably never wear it to work. Not that I wouldn't be able to pull it off but I like to feel at least 95% confident in what I am wearing at any given time (the 5% is often inevitable and may include:  bad hair day, wrinkled clothing, breaking in new shoes, or just the occasional bad mood).

I think I've gotten braver in recent years and my tastes are generally more eccentric than they were when I was in my teens.  I've embraced wearing tights with peeptoed shoes - I've also been known to mix brown and black in the same outfit (breaking the "black plus brown make a frown" rule. I know...quel rebel!)  So, what about you?  What are some of the fashion rules you have placed on yourself? And what's at the edge of your fashion comfort zone?

That dress is adorable! I've definitely gotten more adventurous as I've gotten older. Though now sometimes I worry about looking really young instead of my age b/c of silly/fun clothes.

you always have the best vintage dresses.

hurrah for breaking fashion rules! i don't really have that many... skinny pants and heels are a sure no for me, but that's just because they give me carrot legs... i also staunchly refuse to wear ugg boots or leggings as pants. i don't think i'll ever break those rules, heh.

I love the dress! But I know what you mean about not wearing it out...there are a couple of pieces in my closet that I absolutely adore but am not brave enough to take beyond the mirror in my room haha.

adorable dress! i've never been one to follow fashion rules and was unaware that black + brown = frown until i overheard a couple discussing my shoe + stocking combo on the metro! the only rules worth following in fashion are your own. xo

such a ridiculously cute dress. I feel like you should be peeking out the window of a dutch windmill.
