As a rule, I would say that wearing black velvet during the summer is a bad call (and potential cause for heatstroke) but this little velvet number has been my go-to "throw it on in the morning and go get a coffee" outfit lately. Because of it's loose fitting nature I don't feel like I'm wearing winter garb rather a nice little summer dress that happens to be made of black velvet! rules schmules!
Ok...so, admittedly, I'm not out sun-bathing in this! But I just bought a new bathing suit so it all works out very nicely.

I love this velvet dress, wearing a dress with some weight makes me feel extra fancy, summer or winter. Great find!
Love those swedish hasbeens! And I agree-rules schmules! This dress is adorable on you.
It's super pretty, and I'm pretty sure I could wear it around here, where it's not currently too hot. Meanwhile, I'm still getting palpitations of envy that every blogger seems to have Swedish Hasbeens except me.... ; (
This dress is so pretty! And I love the shoes. Gorgeous look!
oooh, I love the dress. Here in the PNW I can keep wearing things like that pretty far into the summer. Today was actually one of the nicest days we've had and I still threw some sheer tights on under my shorts when I went out tonight. Looks like a great morning coffee dress.
Ah yes... I used to live in Seattle and, I have to say, I miss the summers there. I guess I wouldn't mind the sheer tights at the moment ;) That said, it's not unbearable here just a little sticky every now and then.
What a rebel! But you are right- the shape and cut make it totally fine for any time of the year
the edging of lace makes this dress perfect! that and the gorgeous back x
