Just back from my little adventure to the South (which was fantastic!) but before I get into all of that here is another little post I meant to share before I left...
I think a common misconception people have of me/my closet is that I am always buying and wearing new things - I promise you this is not the case. I have many pieces that I hang on to for years and years and years. This little black cotton dress is the perfect example. I have had this dress for at least 4 years and though I do put it away for months at a time, I am always willing to revisit it because it is so easy to throw on. The secret, I think, is mixing pieces up and keeping them fresh.
I must admit, I paired it with something newish this time around - namely my sparkly platforms designed by Karen Elson for Nine West. They are my new favorites.

Those shoes are crazy, I love them! Love your cardigan too
I want those platforms SO badly! I know what you mean about holding on to things for years. I still wear clothes from high school. I have a black dress and a black sweater that I will just dye black when they start to fade because I refuse to buy a new one of either since these are still basically perfect. Some blogs I completely gave up on because they get all their clothes for free and seem to have a constant cycle of new things, which is unrealistic for people with jobs (and no time/money to shop) who wear the same items that they carefully picked and purchased and intend to style more than once.
Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant.
I feel the same way about my closet. I have SO MANY clothes and not because I am always on the hunt for new things, but rather I am a clothing hoarder and, like you (not that you are a hoarder), I tend to hang on to things FOREVER! I love these sparkly platforms!
Eee, I wanted some of those collaboration shoes sooo much. When I have a job....
I keep my stuff forever, unless I accidentally shrink it or something. I do occasionally put things away for a while, so that I can get over being a bit bored with them. Clothes should be bought with the idea that they will be worn for years and loved I think... and the things we buy new should be nice enough to be the vintage of tomorrow!
I think the dress looks perfect with the cardigan! And your shoes are awesome!

Wow, those shoes!! I love how you paired them with that cute dress! Buying something new is a pleasure, but I think that remixing an old item that you've always loved is better ;) plus, I like to imagine how a dress or an old pair of shoes could be worn by my daughter one day as vintage garments (IF I'll have a daughter!).

@giulia I always wonder what from my closet will be really cool to younger generations. It's really interesting to think your clothes in that way.
@kallie nonsense! I love the occasional rant. I agree! there are some blogs that get so over-saturated with swag and it can be so very disappointing. That said, i think you can work with brands gracefully without alienating your readers...but that's a whole other rant! ;)
those shoes are delicious! looking forward to seeing some nashville posts from you. i miss that place, but i'm loving living in sf!
