Paris...is always a good idea.

I made a pact with myself back in January that I would go to Paris this year.  It had been several years since my last visit and I just felt a weird gravitational pull for no particular reason.  This happens on occasion – things get into my head and can't shake them and (as the Brit will attest ) once I set my mind on something like that, sooner or later I'm going to make it happen.  I had hoped to get there earlier in the year but with all of my music related happenings I just could't get away until now. The upside was that my trip coincided with a few fun events that happened to be...er... happening in the city of lights. I'm back in LA LA Land now so I thought I'd do a little recap. These photos aren't necessarily in consecutive order but I'm sure you'll get the point - sadly most of these were taken with my iPhone though I did take a few with my proper camera too.

We rented an apartment in Le Marais which was a lovely change from the usual Left Bank tourist madness I'm used to. It felt like a neighborhood we could quite easily live in... if I perfected my French that is. On our first night we headed off to the Oberkampf area and then to on Le Zèbre de Belleville to watch the fantastic Miss Sarah Slean perform!

In general, we spent our days (restaurant & vintage store list in hand!) meandering the city streets (occasionally showing Brit some of the more obvious Paris sights... he had only been to Paris for an afternoon years ago up to this point!) and our spent nights eating, meeting up with friends and doing even more wandering.

On yet another fun-filled night during our stay I got to celebrate my dear friend Nell's birthday (she was, by pure coincidence, going to be in Paris for Fashion Week).  I bought her a card that looked like a popsicle, met some of her lovely co-workers and pals, and we had a crazy and wonderful night near Canal Saint-Martin.  Afterwards, I proceeded to get ever-so-slightly lost on the way back home...alas a 1920s Peugeot did not pick me up and whisk me off to drink with F. Scott Fitzgerald at Gertrude Steins place…bad luck.

I must say, I think my favorite touristy thing we did was Pere Lachaise on our last day in Paris.  It was a little bit rainy and felt very autumnal which made the place even more spooky and magical...

So much fun... sigh... Well, I think that's probably enough pictures for one post but it is hard edit them down!  I hope you are doing well!  xmeg o

PS: Paris... I will be back!

another canyon lady

Just a couple of outtakes from a mini-photo excursion around the Canyon this past weekend.  "The Brit" is working on a series of photos for a show later this year and I tagged along, as usual!  It's old news to causal readers of my blog that I am in love with my little neighborhood tucked away in the hills of a city that even on my best days I feel a bit at odds with.  I am so lucky to have fallen into living in the Canyon, which is exactly how it happened four years ago!  Meanwhile, I've been reeeeally bad at taking photos with my beloved new camera (for shame) but I thought I would share these with you mostly because I looooove this new vintage dress I found over at Light Witch vintage a couple of weeks ago. I highly recommend checking the shop out!

wilting lily

Sadly, I've only got a few photos for you this time around. "The Brit" very kindly snapped a few for me at lunch today - I've been up since 7:30am and it's hot out hence my slightly wilted look.  Still, I wanted to post this dress finally because it's one of my favorites!  It's cream so I think it's acceptable to wear after Labor Day, non?  As if I subscribe to that rule...or any for that matter. For better or worse my closet is a complete free-for-all!

I've got such a busy week ahead of me filled with fine tuning of a few songs, a crack at shooting a music video for a pal of mine (fingers crossed), a couple of drink and dinner commitments AND the Citizens Band is playing on Wednesday night!!!  Not sure if I've mentioned them here before (UPDATE: I have! Forgot about last year's NYFW show ) but they are a fantastic politically-fueled cabaret/theater troupe founded by Sarah Sophie Flicker & co and featuring many talented folks including two of my musical heroes Nina Persson & Karen Elson. They just put out a record too which you can find here.

outfit notes:
dress - wasteland (I think it's FreePeople)
shoes - remix

musical notes: 60seconds of Nina singing "I Swung the Election"

back soon! xDJRD

more photos from the mountians...

I've been extremely busy this week (incidentally, stay tuned for an extra special post I've been working on for Monday!) and, as a result, I am atrociously behind with posting more of the photos from our trip to Idaho.

another closet raid

I took these a few days ago when it was cloudy in the canyon.  In blue jeans, which may come as a shock - also in a stolen... er... borrowed sweatshirt from "The Brit's" closet. Truth be told I was a little under the weather on this particular afternoon and the weather made me even less motivated to get dressed.  I've probably said it before but if I'm in pants a) I'm not feeling well or b) I'm being super lazy or, in this case, perhaps a bit of both.  I do love cloudy days but they mostly make me want to stay in and wear big sweaters or cotton blankets. I suppose I should be proud of myself for pulling this together somewhat!

This weekend has been absolutely beautiful and I've actually spent most of it laying on a blanket in the grass, listening to music, drinking iced coffee, reading books and hanging out with the pups (I'm actually typing this post from the aforementioned blanket).  I have a busy week ahead of me so I am just fine with a slow paced weekend.
outfit notes:
sweatshirt - "the Brit's" closet
blouse - xxi
jeans - topshop
loafers - rachel antonoff for bass
