guaranteed to blow your mind, anytime (or) how I spent my 400th post

hey, hey it's post #400 here on don juan's reckless daughter so I thought should at least point it out! I don't usually keep track but I looked up and noticed, as I went to create a new post today, that is a milestone of sorts.

I took these pictures pretty late in the day hence the very shadowy quality to them. I was pretty sure they weren't going to turn out but was happily surprised. The dress you have seen before (if you've been reading since January, that is) so this is a little remix just to prove I do wear dresses over and over again but try to use fresh combinations to avoid the dreaded "closet burnout" also known as "I hate everything I own and have nothing to wear".

this must be the place.

Just a quick note to say happy Friday! Since I've been slacking in the wardrobe posts department this month, I thought I'd share 3 in one week! Here is what I wore to work today...
Can you tell I am a little bit over the moon about these new shoes? I expect you will be seeing them again soon!

no one will surprise me unless you do

I tried to snap a few shots for the old bloggie last night since it's been a while between outfit posts! I've had quite the week but there is a light at the end of the tunnel! There is also a trip to England in less than a month and that is very good news, indeed!

I'm sure you have all seen this H&M dress on other bloggers by now - in fact, I am wearing the green version of it in my FAQ section. It is a great dress though, and it was SO cheap; I'm kicking myself for not buying the black one while I had the chance. Anyhow, this is what I wore last night when, in an effort to help me cheer up & relax, the Brit took me to see a 60s movie starring Michael Caine (I have a huge 60s-era MC crush - can't explain) at the New Beverly Cinema.  Oh, and he suggested the ukulele prop which, incidentally, I can play three songs on but I still cant quite tune it by ear.

I know it's blurry but I really like this one...

I know the song is so 2008 but I love this cover of Peter, Bjorn & John's "Young Folks"  - blame the Brit who has been playing it non-stop in recent weeks.

A Quarter To Nine

Ok, ok. I'm officially back and officially ready to start thinking (at least a little) about Fall. After cleaning out my uber-congested inbox I came across the AW 2010/11 lookbook from London-based label Colenimo and I think that it single-handedly changed my summer-loving mindset.

To understand why you need only read this description of the collection (called "A Quarter To Nine")
taken from their website:

"...womenswear inspired by 1930's tap star Ruby Keeler and the work of Hollywood choreographer Busby Berkeley."

Ruby Keeler as muse! How could that not be incredible?!  And it does, indeed, live up to it's description...

It also reminds me a bit of this film and that could never be a bad thing...

Obviously, I love the vintage inspiration in these pieces (knit-leggings, trench coats, house dresses), not to mention, the model'adorable bob...must resist urge to chop my hair off...but the navy blue items were of particular interest because I'm trying to incorporate more of that classic color into my own closet.  The double-breasted cardigan is also something I wouldn't mind having when the LA air gets a little cooler!

So, what do you think? Ready for fall yet?

***

Sorry everybody! I know it's out of character for me to be gone so long but I had a few (unexpected) things to deal with in the past few days which took over.  I promise I will be back to my normal posting schedule this week! I hope you will bare with me xx

hello, goodbye

Things did not go my way today... you see, I had a proper post to post but apparently my computer has decided to eat it and, yes, I erased the originals from my camera! That's ok, but I will definitely be contemplating a new Macbook soon.  Meanwhile, here I am hanging out with Charlie. She is good at making me forget my troubles.

it wasn't me...

Hello, lovely people! I hope you each had a fabulous weekend and are relaxed and ready for another week.  It does seem like a lot of people I've been bumping into lately (both on the internet and in real life) have a case the summertime blues and I've been in a strange sort of funk too with no apparent explanation. It hasn't really been hot enough here in LA to blame it on the weather or anything like that. However, I've decided to try and snap out of it! Care to join me? great! moving on...
The dress in these photos (most of which "the Brit" snapped)  is one I mentioned in a post last week but I never got around to wearing it until the weekend (unless you count this...
haha...what a nerd!).  Anyhow, I found the dress at a vintage store on Melrose called SLOW - where I usually never find anything so it was a nice surprise finding this 1950s number in such good condition and fairly cheap to boot!  It has also been a while since bought anything red so it was defintely time to continue with the red dress obsession.

(there was wasp above me here - hence the ridiculous expression which I, of course, had to post)

Sweet and Lowdown

I've been sitting on this editorial for a few days because I wanted to do an outfit post first - though I did post a few images on my tumblr. You may have seen it elsewhere by now but it's so lovely I thought it was worth posting it here! so beautiful...
