cause célèbre: miu miu ads

I happened to be scrounging around the Miu Miu website, like a hungry dog hoping for scraps, when I came across a marvelous gallery of past Ads. I guess I never realized the celebrity-centered campaigns started back in the earliest days of the label but I was even more so struck by how cool these ads remain years (or decades) on!

The Maggie Gyllenhaal campaign in 2004 is the first celebrity miu miu ad I remember seeing in magazines and it is still one of my favorites. She looks like a flapper after a crazy night in the Jazz Clubs and I love the lip color!

Of course, who doesn't love Kirsten's miu miu ads?! pure amazingness. Speaking of amazing, can you imagine Zooey D in a Miu Miu ad?!  Would someone please get me on the phone to Miuccia asap!

To be fair, the non-celebrity ads are pretty incredible too!

POP goes the magazine

I love the latest cover of POP magazine - the 20th anniversary issue, in fact - with coverstar Drew Barrymore (and co-coverstar a lil white bunny) it's a little nod to grunge and perhaps Alice in Wonderland? (leave it to me to read into anything and say it's "alice in wonderland" influenced - but come one, who doesn't love alice?)
I was sad to learn that POP magazine is going on a "hiatus" (whatever that means) from now until 2009 and that editor, Katie Grand and basically all of her staff have left the publlication.

While I don't buy POP that often (I read bits of it online instead) I am, more often then not, quite satiated by the modernist layout and
funky editorials. According to their publisher, POP will return - but will it be the same? not very likely.

Katie Grand and co. will be launching a new magazine in Spring of 09 which is reportedly title LOVE. I can only hope that LOVE will fill the void if POP is, in fact, dead in the water.
