photophile: Stacey Mark

It has been ages since I've done a photophile post and unless you are an old-school follower of this blog (pre-wardrobe posts) you may not even know what a photophile post is (you'll catch on quick, promise).  I caulk that up to tumblr and the fact that it has kind of taken over that aspect of my blog. Anyhow... I came across New York based Photographer, Stacey Mark's online portfolio and realized she was another one of those "hidden in plan sight" photographers for me so I decided she deserved a little post.  I have seen Stacey's work hundreds of times and even reblogged her images on my tumblr. She has photographed people like Sarah Sophie Flicker, Carey Mulligan, Chloe Sevigny, Goldfrapp and The Kills for magazines like Lula,Vice, Elle UK, Nylon, Purple...the list goes on! more information about Stacey can be found on her site: staceymark.com

Lula post alert!  I've been wanting to post something from issue 10 of Lula for a while now but there is always a bit of Lula-overload in the weeks after each issue comes out.  So, I thought I'd let the dust settle and, finally, over the weekend I decided that the time was right to post this particular Editorial BUT (there's always a "but", isn't there...) when I went to find the photos I could only find one shot from the whole Ed on my Google image search(es)! "Could it be?" I thought "A Lula Ed that has not been put up on the internet?"  You see, it was a Joanna Newsom sort of day today and I was hellbent on posting these lovely photos which left me only one alternative...the dreaded DIY scan!

So, my apologies for the shoddy job but I refused to rip the pages out so that they would lay flat on the scanner. Lula, I'm afraid, is just too good to rip up in my universe...

I know miss Newsom is a bit of an acquired taste so I won't judge you if you aren't a fan of her tunes but how can you not think she is lovely!

artist spotlight :: mercedes helnwein

If you've seen the most current Lula Magazine (#9) then you undoubtedly came across the Austrian-born Ireland/LA inhabiting artist, Mercedes Helnwein. But if for some reason you missed it OR you saw it but want to see more I thought I'd post this beautiful video from Lula * *update**uh-oh it's been taken down (it's still on Lula's site under "dark star") for the time being there's this one:
