FW inspiration and other things

Ok, as promised, I am posting a few of my FW2013 favorites today. Starting with one of my favorite labels of late, Red Valentino. I love everything about this collection probably as much as I liked the last one. Just pure perfection...

for the full collection visit style.com

I also really loved the 60s twiggy vibe of the Anna Sui show this time around. She is so constant in her color scheme but without being totally boring and that is no easy task. those greens and blues really caught my eyeballs!
 more at style.com

On to another 1960s inspired collection...ahhh, ChloĆ« for OC... there are always at least 5 items I want from each of
her collections and this was particularly true for Fall 13. Very 60s Youthquake mixed with definite hints of 90s and some questionable track suits but we should expect no less, as miss Sevigny is a 90s poster child.  I want all of the coats and the white dress for a start!

Lastly, I was going to post Marc Jacobs' FW13 collection because I am a magpie and it was sparkle-tastic but... upon second glance I realized there was a whole lot of fur in it...like A LOT...and, honestly, I felt funny posting it here because it's not exactly "in tune" with my code of ethics. Anyway, so look it up if you are interested.  I have to say I loved the crazy huge and messy hair at Marc by MJ (probably because mine looks like that most days) so I'm posting that instead!

Now, perhaps I am out of sorts but I was mildly disappointed at some of my usual NYFW favorites this season.  London, however, is proving slightly more inspiring

In other news - I am playing in LA tonight!  It is my EP release party so please come on down if you are in town and say hello! xo

It's EP release day!!!! (updated)

Meg Olsen Deal from the Bottom EP

You really cannot imagine how excited/nervous/thrilled I am to get this EP out into the world and, in particular, to share it with all of you lovely people who have stuck with me and this blog over the past 6+ months while I plunged head first into the recording process.  (sidenote: I really wish I could have posted this earlier in the day but I only just got back from the Sundance Film Festival this morning and couldn't get to a computer until now!) Anyhow...

Without further ado, may I present to you my debut EP: Deal from the Bottom which came out today and is available digitally on iTunes (eek! worldwide)! I'd love to hear your thoughts and even if it's not quite your cup of tea, I would be forever grateful if you would share it with people who may like it. The iTunes link is below and I am also in the process of finishing my website where you'll be able to get hard copies in case you're a fan of holding an actual physical copy and looking at artwork like me!

*Update* Here is the first track on the EP - it's called "Corners of Bars"... I hope you like it!

Someone posted a video from the Lucette London show (Secret Sisters UK tour) featuring me and "the Brit".  I thought I'd post it since I never did post any of our actual performances. Enjoy!

tour diary: fast trip to Belfast

Now a post that is a little more about the photos than it is a travel guide since we were only in Belfast about 24hours. We left Dublin and hopped on a train headed to Northern Ireland - the tour was full of these early morning lobby calls which was neither my, nor "the Brit's" cup of tea but we managed to make all of our trains and planes!
After dropping our bags in our very colorful hotel room (we're talking primary colored decor ever-y-where!) we walked over to a place we had passed by earlier which looked promising called Harlem Cafe (34 Bedford St Belfast BT2 7). We ended up absolutely loving it.
 ^outside!
^inside!   vOur table, filled with seashells.
They had amazing veggie-friendly breakfasts (as well as carnivore-friendly ones), good coffee, comfy atmosphere and great music. It's a wonder we were able to peel our still somewhat jet-lagged bums from those chairs when it came time to go.
We explored a bit in the downtown shopping district and walked past City Hall on our way back to the hotel. The city was absolutely bustling with people, though I didn't do the best job of documenting that.
I'm not sure what I expected of Belfast, honestly...but I found the people and the city itself very pleasant and welcoming.  I suppose most of what we Americans know about Northern Ireland involves it's rather turbulent not too distant past but there were no signs of that whole mess to be seen - at least not where we were.
Then it was suddenly already time for sound check...
We played a sorta divey but awesome venue called Spring & Airbrake. So many great bands/artists have played there which made it all the more special!
Backstage Laura & Lydia (the Secret Sisters) had brought us a delicious "welcome to the tour" surprise... mmm
me...being serious
^ every backstage area during this tour was freezing - hence everyone keeping their coats on until showtime!
next stop...Manchester!

PS: hope you all had a great weekend!

i put a spell on you...

You may recall that I promised to post some video documentation of Dime Store Dollies  (the pop–Cabaret group I started with my pal Beth Jean) so… without further ado, here is a little peek at the DimeStore Dollies Halloween show THE BLACK CAT'S MEOW!  *This is only my second ever time singing on stage (first time singing on stage whilst in a tutu), so do be kind. Also, apologies for the shabby audio, my little camera didn't do the best job recording - in fact, I don't think it managed to get even one song the whole way through - but this should suffice for those interested!

I hope you all have a marvelous Monday! x

romance & other rumours

For those of you who couldn't be there... a few photos from the debut of our pop-cabaret act The Dime Store Dollies!
The idea behind Dime Store Dollies is to take well know pop-songs (60s through present) and give them a 1920s makeover.  This time we dealt with songs about love and heartache. To give you an idea, a few of the songs we covered were... Lovefool - the Cardigans / Real Love - John Lennon / After You've Gone - Marion Harris (this was actually from the 20s) / Take on Me - A-ha (plus others).

I am told that it went very well but in my head it was all a bit of a nervous blur! We didn't have many photos from the show this time - luckily, the Brit snapped these ones! but we are planning another show in late October so do not fret if you missed us, there will be a round two!
Oh, one last thing, I wanted to quickly give a little mention to Sue at Giant Dwarf who made these amazing starlette crowns!! It's pretty much my favorite thing ever! thanks again, Sue!

secret project revealed! introducing the Dime Store Dollies

Hello loves! I wanted to take a moment invite you all (particularly those of you in LA who can make it) to the debut of a 1920s infused pop-cabaret project The Dime Store Dollies. This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time and now - through a collaboration with my dear (musically inclined genius of a) friend, Beth Jean - it's happening for real! If you find yourself looking for something to do this evening (and you aren't in NYC for fashion week -- still jealous I'm missing it btw) PLEASE come down to BAR LUBITSCH in West Hollywood and introduce yourself! It all kicks off at 10:30pm! (the Brit plays a set with his band just before us at 10pm so it's a two for one!) Tickets are $5 at the door and it's 21+. For those of you who can't make it, fear not, there will be a DSD post in the near future!! wish me luck!! xdjrd
