happy halloween and horror film fashion:: repulsion

Happy Halloween everyone!!  In honor of it being the spookiest day on the calendar I thought I'd do one last post on horror film fashion. This time it's Catherine Deneuve as Carole in Repulsion.

I do love my 1960s fashion so this was a pretty easy choice, that and the fact that I just saw this movie for the first time last year and it's really creepy!

horror film fashion: a nightmare on elm street

Yes, I am still in denial about them doing a remake (I guess "re-working" is a better term since it's not exactly the same) of the original even though I read the script for work last year. Why must we ruin classic films this way??? but that's a topic for another post...next  up in the horror film fashion series is Nancy from A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Lets face it kids, Nancy is a bit of a hot-1984-mess. Understandably so, because for a better part of the film she is a self-induced coffee-drinking NoDoz-popping insomniac trying desperately to avoid the monstrous killer that awaits her in her dreams! (yikes!) Yet she somehow manages to land Johnny Depp which is clearly where the "hot" part of hot-mess comes into play.  Regardless, I felt like giving Nancy a bit of a makeover while staying true to the original character and given how relevant 1980s fashion is these days it wasn't difficult to do! I hope you enjoy...

horror film fashion :: 2009

I did a few posts like this last year in honor of my love for scary movies and one of my favorite holidays ever, Halloween. Everyone seemed to like those so I thought to do a couple of horror/thriller film themed fashion collages. First off, Wait Until Dark...

skirt:chloe | ring: coach| flats: pink monogram | sweater: dvf | cardigan:debenhams

True, it's more of a suspense film but newly-blinded housewives trapped in apartments with knife-wielding robbers seems terribly horrific to me!

horror film fashion:: the eyes of laura mars

Ok. So, I am sure you're thinking, "um, d.j.r.d. that flick is not technically a horror film" to which I say, perhaps not according to the video store's definition but ponder this - you are strolling along the street minding your own business when suddenly your vision is replaced by someone else's - suddenly you are behind the eyes of (in the words of the great David Byrne) a psycho-killer and can do nothing but look on as innocent victims, most of whom you know, are stabbed to death (in the eyes with sharp pointy objects)!
eek...sounds pretty horror-esque, non?

So without further ado, the last installment of horror film fashion: Miss Faye Dunaway in the Eyes of Laura Mars.

Faye stars as Laura Mars, fashion forward photographer whose images often depict violent crime scenes using tres risqué styling. All is fabulous, that is until Laura begins having disturbing and murderous visions (as described above). And what's worse, she's forced to receive said visions at random which render her helpless as her closest pals are being brutally murdered. Yet she manages to look fabulous even whilst her world crumbles around her. How does she do it?

horror film fashion: the hunger

For round two of horror film fashion I thought I'd go for the villain rather than the victim. Enter Miriam, Catherine Deneuve's creepy yet genteel character in The Hunger. Deneuve plays a 2000 year old Egyptian vampire who still manages to look classy and chic even whilst relieving her lovers of their blood and their livelihood.

I love the splashes of 1940s/50s fashion that many Gothic 1980s movies had (eg: blade runner) and the Hunger is no exception.

horror film fashion: rosemary's baby

In honor of October being the month of Halloween (quite possibly the best holiday ever) I've decided to start a series of posts high-lighting horror film fashion. so here goes...
To get the series off on the right foot it was obvious I should begin with my favorite horror film of all time which happens to boast the best fashion in a horror film ever. Rosemary Woodhouse of Rosemary's Baby - arguably the most fashionable pregnant lady ever. Here are a couple ensembles I've complied channeling Mia Farrow's young & hip lady of the 60s - no demonic bun-in-the-oven necessary...
shoes: Pour la Victoire - navy barret: Urban Outfitters - dress: Karta - coat: Marc by Marc Jacobs - bag: Chanel - necklace: H &M
